We reported just a few days ago that the McLaren P1 has all but sold out, and one of those buyers is America’s petrolhead in chief, Jay Leno. Even though Jay isn’t short of a few bob, he’s not going to be the wealthiest buyer of a P1 (by far), but his celebrity status has conferred on him something most P1 buyers won’t get – the chance to take to the Top Gear track at Dunsofold in the new P1 with McLaren’s Chris Goodwin (Chief Test Driver) riding shotgun. Prior to the run round Dunsfold, Jay gets a tour of the new P1 production centre (perhaps the cleanest car production centre in the UK) before being whisked off to Dunsfold by helicopter.
Last week, Porsche unveiled the new 911 GT3 RS for well-heeled drivers who like to test their mettle on the track during the weekend. Now, we get the full-bore race version of the car, the GT3 Cup, to be shown at the Frankfurt auto show next month. The GT3 Cup car is similar to the GT3 RS.
This is the fourth-generation BMW 5-series Touring, and it’s the third and final model to join the German car company’s Five range after the saloon and 5 GT. Yes, and if you happen to cart water around for a living the increase of 60 litres to 560 litres might mean something to you.
